Vanquish is an epic sci-fi third person shooter video game published by SEGA and developed by PlatinumGames Inc for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Shinji Mikami, the famed director of Resident Evil 4 had his hands all over Vanquish so you know it has to be good, right?

The story isn’t Shakespeare by any means for a video game. Basically, the US created a huge space station that looks like planet Halo. The space station was used to help supplement the energy crisis on earth. One day, a Russian cyborg dictator known as Victor Zaitsev hi jacks the space station and uses its energy to blow up San Francisco. Victor then threatens USA soon after saying if they don’t surrender he will blow up New York.

You can guess what happens next. President Hilary Clinton, oops I mean Elizibeth Winters dispatches Robert Burns who looks straight out of Gears of War as well Sam Gideon the cool DARPA agent who smokes cigarettes while wearing a mech suit. You play through Vanquish as Sam Gideon ex football star and cliche war hero.

This is why you must buy this video game. Vanquish is sooooo much fun. Its fast, frantic, epic, exciting and unique. Vanquish has a lot of cover based shooter elements much like Gears of War. You can’t stay in cover all the time however. The enemies are so fast they can fly up from behind you while in cover if your not careful. This game is so action packed you can manually slow down the action albeit for a few seconds (your mech suit will overheat if its too long).

More videogame developers need to take notes on Vanquish’s polished gameplay. Vanquish is a shooter at heart and Sam Gideon has a plethora of guns that all felt “right” when used. All of the guns can be upgraded. You can also carry three different guns at the same time and two different grenades as well. I can’t stress enough how epic the gameplay is in Vanquish. You will need all those guns and grenades.

The visuals in Vanquish are very good. During the chaos you can see sparks, bullets, debris is all clarity while your skidding around on your jet thruster legs while shooting baddies. The entire game takes place on Halo sorry i mean the space station. The landscapes aren’t all to different but the set pieces in some missions rivals that of Uncharted 2. Some levels looked as if your playing Gears of war 2 with the destroyed cites and etc. Overall, the textures and art design are all very good and fit Vanquish well imo. I wished more videogames looked like Vanquish.

Sam Gideon and Robert Burn’s voiced dialog steals the show regarding Vanquish’s sound design. The cheesy music and cutscenes sound effects were entertaining.

This is the only bad thing guys. I beat this game in 5 hours and 28 minutes on hard difficulty. Of course you can go back and make a collection run or a challenge run. Vanquish is very short however!! I wished Vanquished lasted 20 hours then again I wished I was a millionaire.

You are asking how can I rate this videogame so high when its so short with no multiplayer. Its easy, its that fun. The fun and epicness outweighs its short time length and no inclusion of multiplayer. Vanquish is for guys and gals who want to have fun while gaming. If your in a slump with this hobby I highly advise you to pick up Vanquish! You need some fun in your life and this videogame delivers.
